I was flipping through my (too sparse) sketch book, and I came across this sketch. I still really like it. So, I scanned it in. Maybe I’ll finish it digitally, or finish it some other way. In any case, here it is. (Unfortunately, there’s a really dark charcoal drawing on the next page that you can still sort of see. Anyone who has scanning/digital techniques that will get rid of this, please share!)

This is my self-representation, Cami, dressed for the can-can. The skirt tripped me up a bit, but overall, I’m really happy with it (especially her face).

I’ve been remiss in my updates. Oops!
Well, here is a skirt that I made last month. I just finished up the last details in the past couple days. (I need to work on my hemming skills.) It’s made of a dark green suede-cloth with emboidery and metal sequin-like disks.

I’m pretty proud of it.
And next, a couple pictures of a hat I made in December, I think. Fully lined, even!

Next, I’m making a jacket. It looks complicated and ambitious. I’m eager to learn. :)
Comments welcome!

Yesterday I went to the art supply store and bought some new watercolor brushes. Then I came home, and painted. Wow, what a difference good brushes makes! (And a little knowledge helps, too.)
I set up a quick still life with a banana and a little purple flower pot (yay, complementary colors!) From sketch to finished painting took me about an hour and a half. Here’s the finished painting:

The scan doesn’t look as good as the real thing, of course. I have GOT to learn good scanning technique.
No background, but I did include the shadows to anchor the pieces. I’m pretty proud of the banana. I think I overworked the pot a little. Trying to get the reflection of the banana in the pot and not have it come out mud was… practically impossible.
I still need to figure out the whole THIN wash thing. (Isn’t that what watercolors are all about?)

So I’ve got a design I’m happy with… as a jumping off point. It needs some tweaks. Anyone good with tattoo designs want to give me some critiques? I’d love to hear them!

And just for funsies, here’s the image inverted:

I’m looking for a bold, contrast-y effect. I think my design needs to be simplified, and needs to have more black in it. Please, tell me what you think!

Here’s a digital painting I did three years ago, according to the file info. Yikes! It’s still one of my best works though, I think. I’m not terribly good at stylizing (or at least not consistently) but I can do realism pretty well, given time.

I referenced it from a photo a friend sent me of a cat that needed a home. Her name is Delilah. And, uh, I assume that in reality she has a body. :P The eyes are my favorite part.
